Practical Wisdom for Pastors

April 14, 2011

I just finished reading Practical Wisdom for Pastors: Words of Encouragement and Counsel for a Lifetime of Ministry by Curtis C. Thomas.  This book is exactly what it promises.

The book is divided by major sections, with each containing short chapters (often 1-2 pages) that deal with everything from how a pastor should dress, living with integrity and even women in the ministry.  Thomas draws on his 40+ years of experience to provide a wisdom that reflects the church culture of the golden age of Southern Baptist life.

This book contains much wisdom with a lot of Scripture references and encouragement.  At times, his advice tends to reflect the perpetuation of a culture found in smaller Southern churches, but the principles are timeless.  If you’re a seminary student or young pastor, I’d recommend reading through this and garnering some insight into your own life and ministry.
